What Does An Out-of-Province Inspection Involve?

When purchasing a car from another province, you may be required to have an out-of-province inspection performed. This is a simple inspection put into place just to ensure that your new car meets the safety and vehicle standards of Alberta. Passing this inspection will certify your vehicle in Alberta, permitting you to receive a valid license plate in order to operate your vehicle in our province.

If you recently purchased a vehicle outside of Alberta and are looking to have an out-of-province inspection performed, we invite you to Edmonton Chassis! We are a licensed facility by the Vehicle Inspection Program to perform your out-of-province inspection.

What Does An Out-of-Province Inspection Involve?

An out-of-province inspection requires the following items of your vehicle to be checked for proper working order:

  • Body, including the doors, seats, seatbelts, etc.
  • Undercarriage, including the tires, ball joints, shocks, etc.
  • Brakes
  • Lighting
  • Under the Hood, including the engine, fuel system, electrical components, and more.

This includes making sure that each of these areas have parts that are in good working condition and that there are no apparent issues with any of these systems. When you bring your vehicle into Edmonton Chassis, we help to quickly perform your out-of-province inspection so that you can get back on the road. If we find any issues along the way, we will happily assist in correcting them right here at our shop to ensure that your vehicle passes its inspection within 10 days of the original inspection as required by Alberta (otherwise another full inspection will be required).

After passing your inspection, you will receive a certification and a record of the inspection to present to the Alberta Registries Agent. This should be presented within 14 days of your inspection to remain valid.

An out-of-province inspection is quicker and simpler than it seems, and its purpose is to ensure your vehicle is safe enough to be on AB roads. It also makes sure that you and your passengers are protected. Edmonton Chassis is dedicated to helping keep the streets of Alberta safe, and we look forward to assisting you with your out-of-province inspection.
